We need to start young so we don’t say, “I wish I knew Spanish, __________” when we are old.

• Let us pray for the courage of believers in both countries
• Let us pray for the healing and recovery of those wounded
• Let us pray for the comfort of the families and friends who have lost loved ones
• Let us pray for the pastors in both countries to have courage to stand for Jesus Christ amidst the persecution, and for the believers there to rejoice that they have been chosen by the Lord to suffer for His Name, as instructed in the Scriptures
• Let us pray for the perpetrators to be brought to justice, but also that the Lord would open their eyes, that they would repent of their evil acts, and that they would come to faith in Jesus Christ
• Let us pray that the good news of God’s great love, forgiveness and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ would continue to be proclaimed without shame or apology or fear at this critical time.

Below is our memory verse for September 2010. It is short and easy to memorize but it packs a powerful message in a few words. We know that “faith, hope, and love abide” but the greatest is love. But do we recognize that if we don’t love, we don’t know God“. Wow, the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:22-23 are scary to say the least: …depart from Me I never knew you“. Could it be that that love factor is more important than anything else?

1 John 4:8

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (NKJV)

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (KJV)

But anyone who does not love does not know God–for God is love. (NLT)

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (NIV)

They had dinner prepared and served to them by our dashing gentlemen of the Youth and College class!

And Kerrie led us into a time of teaching of “No excuses”. We are all sinners. We are all in need of Christ and our past does not dictate the ability of Christ to love us! We broke up into small groups where our ladies were able to pour their hearts out to each other, pray for each other, and confess things that needed to be confessed. God spoke to our beautiful ladies in amazing ways!

One of our goals was to promote fellowship within our departments. We accomplished this goal TENFOLD by the end of our Party with games that sent them questioning each other in order to fill in the blanks:

Then we divided the girls into 6 groups and had a scavenger hunt in the dark!

By the end of our Party, we had ladies that didn’t know each other in the beginning playing games with each other, praying with each other, and several ladies that met Christ in powerful ways!

Fellowship? CHECK!

Fun? CHECK CHECK!

Godly instruction? CHECK CHECK CHECK!

As you have heard the past few Sunday mornings, we are going into a time of prayer and fasting May 23 through May 26. On May 23 (Sunday morning) we will observe the “Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Evangelization”. Greg Frizzell will be our speaker on Sunday. He will be challenging us to surrender our lives to Christ (Mat. 16: 24-27) and to use our spiritual weapons in prayer (2 Cor 10:3-5).

We will contiune the fast through Wed night when we conclude with a Solemn Assembly at 6:30 p.m. As your pastor I believe strongly that our only hope to carry out the Great Commission and  and see real growth in us and our churches is obedience to what we know to do with a total dependence on God to work through us. Our hope does not rest in newer, more clever programs but earnest, believing prayer and fasting.

You can fast other things besides or in addition to food. For example, spend time in prayer in stead of reading the paper, surfing the web, checking Facebook or Twitter, watching TV, going to movies, etc. Spend the time in prayer that you would normally spend in those activities.

In the OT when a Solemn Assembly was called, everyone participated: men, women, children. They stopped all activities, they rearranged their schedules. I realize that many of us still have to go to work but we don’t have to eat out or go out. Let’s find a quiet place and seek the Lord. Let’s not eat lunch, instead let’s read the Word of God and pray.

Below is part of the message that I will shared Wed, May 19 at the Bible Study/Prayer Time at 6:30 p.m. in preparation for the weekend. I also sent this e-mail to our deacons and staff and as many others as I had e-mail addresses and I posted it on our BLOG’s. There are also some Scriptures for prayer and meditation included.

Don’t wait until Sunday to start praying

List some things you want God to do in you:

III.           BE PRACTICAL

Take the following steps and begin to put them into practice

1. Start cutting back on your intake of food.

2. Start going to bed earlier and getting up earlier.

3. Except your job, clear your schedule for Sunday-Wed.

4. Begin reviewing Scriptures that deal with prayer and fasting.

5. Begin praying for God to reveal Himself to you.

6. Determine to be present Sunday morning/evening/Wed Night.

7. Don’t make any plans to go out or eat out with friends or family.

PRAYER SUGGESTIONS

Holy Father, we humble ourselves and acknowledge Your righteous judgment upon our sins. 2 Chron. 7:14; Ps. 85:6

Righteous God, please send overwhelming love, godly fear and genuine repentance among Your people. Ps. 51:17; Prov. 28:13; Mat. 22:37-39; 2 Cor. 7:1,10

Righteous God, grant to us a mountain-moving faith and passion for fervent prayer. Jer. 29:13; Mat. 21:13; Acts 2:1

Holy Lord, we ask you to deepen and purify our motives in praying for revival and blessing. Ezk. 33:32; Heb. 4:12; James 4:1-4. Teach us to pray for Your kingdom and for Your glory.

Righteous Lord, we pray for Your grace on the persecuted saints and church around the world. Mat. 26:39; James 4:1-4. Strengthen us with the same willingness to suffer for Your name’s sake. Phil. 2:5

Holy God, we humbly ask for a mighty move of conviction in government and cultural leaders. Ps. 2:8; 1 Tim. 2:1-4

Sovereign Lord, we ask you to “rend the heavens” and show forth Your awesome presence in sweeping revival. We pray for the one last harvest before the glorious return of Your Son. Purify Your Bride O Christ! Come Lord Jesus, Come quickly! Is. 64:1; Eph. 5:26-27; Rev. 22:17, 20

Let’s take our prayer lives to a higher level by adding a fast today. Seek the Lord for His presence in a greater way!

Chandler enjoys art, has a relaxed personality, and a ready smile. Chandler is more outgoing, with a great sense of humor. Chandler is more like me in many ways.

Brooklyn can be a total girlie-girl, and still enjoy playing with the boys outside. She’s the spitting image of me (poor thing), but is much more reserved like Mike.

They have characteristics of their parents. Some are inherited through our genes, and others are learned through close contact with us. We are a close family that does almost everything together, anything from taste in music, opinions on politics, fears, likes and dislikes, can be easily influencing to the other family members. Even things as the words we say and how we say them.

If we were not close, these influences would not have taken root in my children. They would be influenced by who they spend time with.

The same is true with my Heavenly Father, if I spend my time with Him, I take on His characteristics. And what are those characteristics?

Galatians 5:22-23 says:

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

If I am spending time with God in a regular prayer time and in His word, then the evidence of that will be revealed in me and my characteristics.

Am I loving? Sometimes.

Am I joyful? Most of the time.

Do I have peace? It varies.

Am I patient? Well…..

Am I good? I do feed the homeless….

Do you see what I mean? We are influenced by what we spend our time doing and who we spend our time with. If I am lazy on my Quiet times, I am less patient, I won’t even sugar-coat that one. If I miss my Prayer times, I can be less than kind. If I’m spending more time with Godly friends, but not God Himself, I reflect the friend, not God.

How can we be loving when we waste our time doing UNlovely things? How can we be gentle to others when we don’t know, or aren’t spending time with the One who teaches gentleness?

If you are not mirroring love or self control, than you cannot tell me you are spending time with Christ. If you say you are, then spend more time with Him.

Wait, were those your toes or mine?

I want to have the characteristics of my Father in Heaven.
